Mohammad Ismat from Manipur was declared the All India topper in the CBSE Class XII exam on May 28 2012.

In an exclusive interview to Hueiyen Lanpao at Zenith Academy today, Md Ismat expressed extreme happiness over his success and showed gratitude to almighty Allah for His blessing in securing the coveted top position in the All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (AISSCE), 2012 . The topper gave all credits for his grand success to his parents, teachers and well wishers and also thanked S Manaoton, Secretary of the school for his immense support towards achieving his goal.

Md Ismat informed that normally he studied for around 6 hours a day but increased the duration of study to 8-10 hours when the examination approached. Md Ismat said that he plans to graduate in Physics and become an IAS officer in future. However, he also has the desire to become a scientist one day, he hastened add, saying he enjoys reading various science books/magazines.

In his message to the students of Manipur, Md Ismat said that one ought to control his/her desire, direct their action to a specific aim, live simple and think high rather than paying more attention to fashion and luxury items. He also suggested that full focus should be given to their studies.

Father of Md Ismat MV Basirur Rahman, who is a teacher at Lilong Chagaipokpi Lower Primary Madrassa, said he is overwhelmed by his son's achievement. "Ismat's weak health and financial problem in the family acted as obstacles in his study. However, he has defied all odds and came out successful", the proud father added.

"Impossible is not in my mind and I have the strong conviction that everything is possible when a man is determined. And it is this belief which helped me in my examination," a jubilant Ismat told this reporter minutes after the results were declared.

"After passing my Class X examination I thought of studying in some schools in Imphal considered to be among the best ones in Manipur but I could not because of the acute financial difficulties faced by my families," he recalled.

"All was not lost as Sir SM Singh the management secretary of Zenith Academy, Imphal accepted my request to study in the school at the barest fees and with his kind guidance and advice I have come out with flying colors," he said. " I'm planning to study at St Stephens , New Delhi and work hard to top the civil services exams," Ismat , who treats books as his best friends, said.

"My happiness knew no bounds. My son Ismat has done it and I think he would definitely become a leader to guide thousands of poor students to become great personalities," an emotional Bashirur Rahman said.

"After passing class X with high marks I thought of studying in the best school in Imphal. But I could not due to the acute financial difficulties faced by my family. All is not lost when S M Singh, the management secretary of Zenith Academy accepted my request to study in the school without charging much fees. With his guidance, I have come out with flying colours," Ismat said.

"Impossible is not in my mind and I have the strong conviction that everything is possible when a man determined to do what mankind can do. And this is the only tool for me to top in this national level examination," a jubilant Ismat told TOI minutes after the results were declared.

"Never leave till tomorrow what you can do today. This was the success mantra of Mohammad Ismat, who topped the All India CBSE Class 12 exam, the results of which were declared on Monday.

He wants to pursue Physics (Honours) from St Stephen’s College in Delhi, and crack the Civil Service exam later.

Referring to last year’s four-month long blockade of the national highways to Manipur, the economic lifeline of the state, Ismat said, “The turmoil in the state was a stumbling block but it worked as a challenge of sorts.”
